In April 2010, I represented a buyer client looking for a raw loft space to renovate to his own style. What we were able to find was an 1150 Square Foot top-floor at BrickBottom Lofts in Somerville. Here's a quick before and after gallery after 2 years of hard work! Interview to follow soon.....

If you haven't heard, Northpoint Condos in the Lechmere section of Cambridge has had new life breathed into it after Magic Johnson (yes, that Magic Johnson, Celtics fans) and his development team have taken the reins to relaunch the stalled neighborhood development at the Northpoint area. The new team is creating "a $2 billion "mini-city" between Cambridge and Boston that will bring thousands of new homes, a shopping complex, and offices to a former rail yard", according to the Boston Globe. Sales in the currently complete two residential buildings - Tango and Sierra, have finally started to occur at a decent clip after the confusion and unknown future of the project also stalled homebuyers' confidence to buy there. I recently toured the buildings again a few times with clients over the past few weeks and units are sales are finally back on track! Units range from two-level loft style to one level open concept - but with bedrooms! There is also a wonderful studio / one bedroom for rent at the moment, that's never been lived in - ready to move in at $2550 / month. The info on this gorgeous Cambridge Loft rental unit:
- 702 Square Feet of Loft Style Space
- One Bedroom w great closet space
- Bamboo Floors
- Sunlight by Floor to Ceiling Windows
- Gorgeous Bath
- Washer Dryer included
- One Garage Parking Space included (compact car)
- Steps to GreenLine T
- Brand New and Modern!
Davis Square Lofts (located in yes, you guessed it: Davis Square, Somerville), are the quintessential "brick and beam" lofts in the Boston area. Located beside the MinuteMan bike path, this collection of gorgeous buildings are a classic factory brought to life. Today I had the pleasure of visiting a first floor one bedroom unit that boasts: polished concrete floors, huge exposed beams, oversized factory sized windows, stainless steel kitchen, ceiling fans, custom lighting, private patio (yes, you can grill out here!), garage parking space and heat, high-effeciency hot water included in the $2800/ month rent. Unit is available furnished, too! More information:http://www.somervillelofts.com/realestate/detailview/10//71307454
Looking for a unique place where you can put some sweat-equity in and get a fantastic loft in return? Brickbottom Lofts in Somerville has just that type of unit on the market right now. Listed for $299,900, this upper-floor unit has 1008 Square Feet of living space that could use a little TLC, but the fruit of a little labor could go a long way. The current kitchen, although serviceable, would benefit from stone countertops, a backsplash, updated lighting and new appliances. The good news here is that the kitchen is in the perfect spot and is a great size for this space. There is also an existing island and overhead cabinets - so the footprint is there - it just needs that right buyer, with some flair to make it shine! The bathroom (once again: the right size and layout for this unit) would be a fun project for anyone willing to roll up their sleeves and crack open the toolbox. A tiled and glass enclosed shower, modern vanity and lighting (ok, paint is a must, too) would give this bathroom a boost. There are two bedrooms, however, the bedroom closest to the kitchen - if opened up so the unit becomes a true one bedroom- would increase the light and main living space would be extremely functional. Existing features include ceiling fans, double-entrance doors, factory sized windows, exposed raw elements (concrete), and a deeded garage parking space. Located in Somerville's first artist loft building (however units can be purchased by those other than artists), Brickbottom Artists Lofts are located next to the new green line extension, has easy access to 93 / 28 / East Cambridge / Boston, and boasts an on-site gallery, award winning common courtyard and vibrant community.
